About

Why Darlingtonia?

Darlingtonia Californica, otherwise known as the California Pitcher Plant or Cobra Lily, is a very special plant friend of mine. Growing up in Oregon I often visited the Darlingtonia Botanical Preserve in Florence. The plant always seemed so otherworldly, I loved witnessing their survival techniques, their community and quiet strength. In my 20's I lived in the Siskiyou National Forest off of the grid, Darlingtonia was there for me once again. Growing off of damp hillsides along the manzanita and madrone, its shining carnivorous shape and tall blooming lily offering such an inspiring balance between masculine and feminine energies. The pitcher itself is where the plant holds its digestive system, it slowly absorbs its food and nourishes itself. As someone who has lived with body dysmorphia, eating disorders, and other mental health issues, I admire the cobra lily and look to it for inspiration and guidance.

Hello,

My name is Mona Mayhue she/they, Cancer sun/ Scorpio moon/ Sagittarius rising. Queer, disabled, mother, witch. I have a big crush on plants and the planets, my cat is my best friend, and my kid is my favorite creature in the universe.

I am a clinical western herbalist, holistic health practitioner, and energetic body worker. My practice with plant medicine stems from a need to find a way to heal intergenerational and direct trauma, which I believe to be the root of some illnesses. Generations of women in my family had only known trauma and fear, poverty and sickness. They were never allowed to take up space, to feel themselves fill their lives with wellness, to thrive. It stops with me.

After years of struggling with my place in this human experience, the plants knew I needed help. They started reaching out to me, offering guidance and healing. Yarrow being the first, showed me how to create boundaries. Next was Chamomile, who showed me how to embrace my sensitivity and treat it as a super power instead of a fault. Then it was Lemon balm, who showed me that healing trauma is possible with gentle care and persistence. Now I’m here to introduce you to your plant allies that are waiting to help you.

Spirit work is something that has come naturally to me from a young age. I began exploring meditation as a teenager and discovered that it was much more than sitting quietly. Since then I have been receiving divine guidance through space & time, to heal for the highest good.
